- 誰かのために何かを丁寧に申し出る。
- 何かが起こったり起こったりする可能性を表現する。

- She may invite one or two friends, but no more than that.
［丁寧な申し出］：～しましょうか？

［禁止］：（否定文）～してはいけない。
- You may not go there.

［推量］：～かもしれない。
- It may rain tomorrow.

- Although we may see things improve in the future, there’s no guarantee at the moment.
- I haven't received your letter. It may have got lost in the post.
- Whatever they may say, I think you are right.
［丁寧な協調］（修辞句で用いる）

- May I be frank, this is not what I was hoping for.
